As we unbundled this stylish U1 package, we got hold of a shining black and
sleek notebook, which was probably the lightest we have seen in the recent past.
The notebook has got looks that can grab attention of every onlooker but the
shining top lid, which is prone to fingerprint marks is a letdown. Based on the
Intel Core 2 Duo U2400 ultra mobile processor, this notebook comes with 1.5 GB
of RAM and has 4 USB ports which are rarely seen in an ultraportable notebook.
In general, ultraportable notebooks are light on expansion capabilities, but not
this one. It has all the regular features: Bluetooth, mini FireWire port, webcam,
and VGA out. For security it has a Finger print reader and HDD protection. The
package also contains an external DVD writer and an optical mouse, which makes
up for the absence of an optical drive. In PCMark05 it scored 2012 which is
fine, but less when compared to the results that we got from HP 2710p (also
reviewed this month). Being a business notebook, the low score of 398 in 3D
Mark06 was expected and so was the short battery backup time, owing to the fact
that this one comes with 3-cell batteries only. We got a backup of about 1 hour
and fifteen minutes from this notebook. The poor cooling solution does spoil the
show; the notebook gets heated up easily, making it difficult for you to keep it
on your lap for long durations. The overall performance is just decent enough,
but nothing extraordinary.

Bottomline: A stylish ultraportable notebook
with all the regular features, but ordinary performance
