As far as performance goes, this computer is not for those who indulge in a lot of gaming or content creation. Instead, it is targeted at the SOHO segment, where office applications play the dominant role. Keeping this in mind, its score of 37.4 in Business Winstone and 59.1 in Content Creation was sufficient to not warrant any criticism. As a bonus, the on-board Intel Extreme Graphics controller is able to deliver enough 3D performance for some basic gaming and multimedia.

Intel Celeron 1.8 GHz
This latest processor from Intel for the budget segment uses the same socket as its more expensive and better-performing cousin, the P4. The major difference between these two processors is that the Celeron features 128 KB L2 cache, whereas the P4, 512 KB. While performance does take a major hit (59.1 and 37.4 in BW and CC Winstone respectively, compared to 84.8 and 61.3 by the 2.53 GHz P4) so does the price. And since most computer users are unable to tap their CPU’s power to the maximum anyway, this processor does look like a good deal.

This computer has enough memory and CPU horsepower to last a long while in an office productivity environment, but nevertheless offers quite a bit of expandability and upgrade options. There are four PCI slots, all empty and one free memory bank. The processor is a Socket 478 version, and thus can be upgraded to a P4 without a problem. The cabinet is bland but pleasing, and has three 5.25” bays and two 3.5” bays. On the inside, there is one more 3.5” slot for putting a hard drive.

A 17” monitor option is offered at an additional Rs 2,650 compared to the 15” that it actually comes with. The computer is covered by a three-year warranty (one year on-site), and one year of XP remote assistance. For Rs. 4,600 you can get Win XP Home pre-installed.

The Bottom Line: At Rs 32,990, a good deal for small offices.
