Best Video Game Remakes

One of the problems with video games is that they age. What looks good now might not be playable 10 years, or maybe even 5 years from now. Take The Witcher for example. Even though the game did really well when it came out, if you try to play it in this day and age, you might give up if modern graphics and gameplay take a priority over the narrative. The game’s narrative is all that remains. This can be true for various video game classics as well. In order to revive them for the later generations, developers launch Video Game Remakes. A remake sees a complete overhaul of a game from the ground up and may introduce new gameplay mechanics, controls and updated graphics.

Both, the original game and the remake are PS exclusives. The original one came out for PS2 while the 2018 remake was a PS4 exclusive.  The original is considered a classic and the remake is one of the best games that has come out on PS4.

The beloved classic brings a massive design overhaul while keeping the original charm of the game intact. Many returning players will feel the nostalgia as they spread the wanton destruction which was one of the features of the original game.

One of the best games released this year, Resident Evil 2 is just brilliant. The graphics in this survival horror are leaps and bounds better than the one in the original. The remake brings some gameplay changes, the most significant one being third person over the shoulder camera as compared to the fixed camera gameplay of the original. It retains the two protagonist gameplay of the original as well. Players will need to complete the games in 2 runs, both the times selecting a different protagonist, to achieve the true ending of the game.

Crash Bandicoot N Sane trilogy

This Remake brought the most popular game of the 90s to PC and modern consoles. The Crash Bandicoot N Sane trilogy is the remake of the first three games in the original series. It retains almost everything from the first game, which makes it all the more nostalgic. The geometry has changed and so have the graphics. The game looks amazing and gorgeous, especially at 4k.

Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening

The original game is really old; it came out in 1993. That is before I, myself was born. So it is safe to say that if you remember playing the game around that time, you are pretty old now. But the charm of the original that the remake brings has not gone old. The toy like graphics make the transition from the 8 bit graphics of the original much easier. The game retains its core gameplay and storyline. But the retro gameplay still manages to be more than fun to this day.
