We hear a lot about big screen TVs with very high resolutions. But they cost too much. So, should a serious viewer really care to buy them?

It depends strictly on your viewing distance. If you are buying a new TV or exchanging your old TV for a newer one, I would recommend a 32 inch for a bedroom and 50-55 inches for the living room. And if price is not a constraint then anything larger than that would be better as watching something over a bigger screen always provides a richer, life-like experience. In addition, rather than just going for any extra feature like 4K resolution, Smart TV, 3D, or higher refresh rates, stepping up the TV screen size is always recommended.
