New Update

This Laser MFD is meant for the SOHO segment where FAX is not a requirement, simply because this device doesn't have a FAX module. The MFD has printer, copier and scanner. Its control panel has a number pads (keys 0-9) for entering the number of prints or copies you want to take. We missed the automatic sheet feeder and auto-duplexer in the device. As far as connectivity is concerned, it has only one USB port and no Ethernet port. It supports a maximum resolution of 600 dpi for printing and 1200 dpi for scanning. The driver CD includes ScanSoft OmniPage SE 2.0 for OCR and Presto Image Manage 6 for scanning and organizing scanned images. Its printer module performed well in our speed test but the other tests saw minor problems. The smallest readable font was 2 pts. It took around 10 secs for an A4-sized text document whereas printing a document with text and some graphics took 11 secs, which was good. In line-art and curve tests we found angular banding, however, the lines were smooth. It printed a full-page monochrome image in 12 secs. An advantage was that it managed to achieve the rated print and copy speeds of 20/min (20 PPM and 20 CPM). The scanning performance was also good with good speeds and quality. It scanned a color A4-sized image in 22 secs at 300 dpi and 58 secs at 600 dpi. The OCR scan was also good.

The Bottom Line: Good MFD for a small workgroups, which do not need fax-capability.
