Change, the Only Constant

New Update

How fast things change. The Internet, which is now an irrevocable part of many of our lives, came to India just six years ago. The dotcom boom and the subsequent bust happened just last year, and broadband is just beginning to happen. The only thing that is constant, as is rightly said, is change.

To help you keep up with all this change, PCQuest has also been changing, in almost every issue. New sections were added, old ones dropped, writing styles changed…. While some of these changes were subtle, some were more obvious. The changes have been minor from one issue to the next, but if you compare, say, the last issue and any issue from last year you’ll find that the changes are very obvious.

It is to give a visible identity to these changes that we decided to redesign and reorganize the  magazine.

Thus, what you have in your hands is not a new publication or PCQuest with a new focus. What you have is the result of consolidating all the small changes that have been happening to PCQuest over the last couple of years. The result is a better organized magazine for easy reading. So, what we’ve done is a revamp, and not a re-launch or repositioning.

In spite, or because, of all the changes, including the current redesign, PCQuest (you would have noticed that the space between the PC and the Quest has been removed to create a single word) remains true to its objective of enhancing your computing. So our tag line–Enhance your computing–which reflects our focus, has not changed. But today, the computer extends much beyond the PC. We’ve been covering these new technologies and products regularly. In recognition of this, the emphasis on the ‘PC’ part of our name has been reduced; both in the logo and the way we write our name.

This revamp is not an exercise that we’ve done overnight. We’ve been working on this for over six months now. And in hindsight, one of the best things we did as part of this effort was to announce it in January this year. Ever since, we’ve been flooded with ideas and suggestions from our readers. We’ve gone through everyone of them–from whether there should be two CDs or one, to what new sections to add and which ones to drop–weighed their arguments at length, and included all the suggestions that we could. We will implement some more of these in the coming months. On behalf of the PCQuest team, I would like to thank all of you for your ideas and good wishes. The result of our combined effort is now in your hands for you to judge. We will be waiting eagerly for your feedback.
