Charge in Minutes, Capture Memories Forever: Huawei Nova 12 Series Unveiled

On Tuesday, the Huawei Nova 12 series, which includes four models — Huawei Nova 12, Huawei Nova 12 Pro, Huawei Nova 12 Ultra, and Huawei Nova 12 Lite — was released in China. Each of the four new smartphones has a similar design but significantly different specifications. They are all powered by HarmonyOS 4 and have 6.7-inch displays. The Huawei Nova 12, Huawei Nova 12 Pro, and Huawei Nova 12 Ultra all have a 4,600mAh battery with up to 100W wired fast charging capabilities. The Huawei Nova 12 Lite, the family's entry-level variant, is powered by a Snapdragon 778G 4G SoC. All four models include dual 50-megapixel back cameras. Satellite connectivity is available on the Huawei Nova 12 Pro and Huawei Nova 12 Ultra.

Price and availability of the Huawei Nova 12 series

The Huawei Nova 12 starts at CNY 2,999 (about Rs. 34,000) for the base model with 256GB of storage. The 512GB storage option costs CNY 3,399 (about Rs. 40,000). The Huawei Nova 12 Pro is available in 256GB and 512GB storage capacities, with prices starting at CNY 3,999 (about Rs. 51,500). The Huawei Nova 12 Ultra is priced at CNY 4,699 (about Rs. 54,000) for the 512GB storage model and CNY 5,499 (approximately Rs. 64,000) for the 1TB storage variant.

The Huawei Nova 12 Lite has 256GB and 512GB storage for CNY 2,499 (about Rs. 31,800) and CNY 2,799 (approximately Rs. 31,800), respectively. The vanilla Huawei Nova 12 and Nova 12 Lite are available in Colour No. 12, Cherry White, and Obsidian Black, while the Huawei Nova 12 Pro is available in Colour No. 12, Obsidian Black, Cherry Blossom Pink, and Cherry Blossom White. The Huawei Nova 12 Ultra Colour No. 12, Smoky Grey, and Obsidian Black colours are available.

In China, all four phones are available for pre-order through VMall. The Huawei Nova 12 Ultra will be available on 12 January 2024, while the remainder will be available on 5 January 2024.

The Huawei Nova 12, Huawei Nova 12 Pro, and Huawei Nova 12 Ultra are all powered by HarmonyOS 4 and include:

• A 6.7-inch full-HD+ (1,224 x 2,776 pixel) OLED LTPO display with up to 120Hz refresh rate.
• 2,160Hz high-frequency PWM dimming.
• 300Hz touch sampling rate.

The selfie camera is housed in a pill-shaped camera island on the display. Huawei has yet to announce the processor to be three models on its official website, although they are expected to be powered by Kirin chipsets. The base models have up to 512GB of storage, while the Nova 12 Ultra has up to 1TB of storage.

The Huawei Nova 12, Huawei Nova 12 Pro, and Huawei Nova 12 Ultra all contain twin rear cameras, including a 50-megapixel sensor. The Pro and Ultra models' primary camera sensor has a variable aperture ranging from f/1.4 to f/4.0. An 8-megapixel ultra-wide-angle sensor is also included in the camera device. On the Nova 12 Pro and Nova 12 Ultra, Huawei has included a dual front camera configuration for selfies, with a 60-megapixel primary shooter and an 8-megapixel portrait sensor. The Huawei Nova 12 standard model contains a single 60-megapixel ultra-wide-angle camera.

Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac/ax, Bluetooth 5.2, GPS, AGPS, GLONASS, Beidou NFC, and a USB Type-C connector are among the connectivity options for the Huawei Nova 12, Huawei Nova 12 Pro, and Huawei Nova 12 Ultra. All three models include a 4,600mAh battery with cable rapid charging compatibility of up to 100W. The Huawei Nova 12 Pro and Huawei Nova 12 Ultra have a two-way Beidou satellite messaging system. When users are out of range or are not connected to a cell network, this function will allow them to send emergency SMS via satellite.

Huawei Nova 12 Lite technical specs

The dual-SIM (Nano) Huawei Nova 12 Lite runs HarmonyOS 4 and has a 6.7-inch full-HD+ (1,084x2,412 pixel) OLED display with a refresh rate of up to 120Hz and a touch sampling rate of 300Hz. The Huawei Nova 12 Lite device is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 778G 4G SoC, an Adreno 642L GPU, and up to 512GB of RAM.

The Huawei Nova 12 Lite includes a dual rear camera unit with a 50-megapixel primary sensor with f/1.9 aperture and an 8-megapixel ultra-wide-angle macro camera with f/2.2 aperture for photography. A front-facing 60-megapixel camera is available for selfies and video chats. Sensors and connectivity options are similar to the other variants. The Nova 12 Lite has a 4,500mAh battery that supports up to 66W wired fast charging. It has dimensions of 161.29x74.96x6.88mm and weighs 168 grams.
