Chhattisgarh Power Distribution Company's IT Implementation under the R-APDRP Initiative

The Problem: CSPDCL had many pain areas inluding very high aggregate technical & commercial (AT&C) losses at 37.8%, due to severe financial leakages, theft and inefficiency in the distribution sector, which had resulted in unplanned extensions of the distribution lines, overloading of system elements like transformers and conductors, and lack of adequate reactive power support.

The Solution: To overcome the pain areas, CSPDCL had initiated the IT implementation initiative across 20 towns under the R-APDRP program initiated jointly by the Government of India, Ministry of Power (MoP) under the guidance of the Power Finance Corporation (PFC) to improve the efficiency in the distribution network, reduce the AT&C losses, enhance the customer satisfaction through IT-enabled customer call center and IT-enabled zonal customer care center.

The Result: Several key business benefits have accrued out of this project. It has improved customer relationship management and overall customer satisfaction which in turn has increased customer retention. Effective corporate governance and regulatory compliance are now in order. It has also total cost of ownership. There is improved tracking and management of physical assets from purchase to end-of-life, including integration with RFID and barcode technologies. And lastly they experience real-time visibility of asset performance and maintenance.
