With increasing virus threats, it’s becoming important to shield not only individual PCs from attacks, but entire networks.
That’s why most anti-virus software companies offer solutions to protect entire networks from virus, Trojans, worms and other malicious scripts. This is one such solution, and its
major highlight is that it can be installed on multiple platforms that include Win NT/2000 server and workstation versions, Win 9x, DOS, Linux, OS/2, NetWare and even Solaris.
One interesting feature of Command anti-virus is a feature called CSS Central. This component allows you to deploy the anti-virus and future updates on client machines from a central location. It creates an image of the anti-virus software in a shared location from where clients can install it. You can even customize the remote client deployment.

The anti-virus supports both manual and scheduled virus scanning. Its also provides virus protection from intelligent viruses, which can change there behavior automatically to avoid detection. The anti-virus software uses a HoloCheck scanning technology to detect these. The anti-virus also has additional add-ons for Microsoft Exchange Server 2000 and Lotus Domino. Using the scanner is pretty simple, as it has a neat interface. Apart from scanning local drives, it can also scan network shares.
We tested the anti-virus on a Windows 2000 Advance Server machine. It identified the latest viruses like e.klez and funlove, and Trojans like BackOrifice. Remote deployment feature worked without any problems. We also checked out its Exchange component, which checks all incoming and outgoing e-mail. It cleaned, deleted or quarantined all infected mail and immediately sent alerts to the sender with details of the infected mail.
The bottom line: A useful anti-virus solution for networks, especially considering that it can be deployed on multiple platforms.
