BGMI is a mobile-based game and a lot of players use different tactics and ways to excel in the game. These tactics and ways can range from having a specific kind of gameplay style to having specific strategies for playing and analysing the game. All of this contributes to the way players react to the things that happen in the game. Controls play a major role in games like BGMI. A number of controls are at work at the same time when playing the game. Having a good understanding of and comfort with the controls can help players become better.

However, we figured out that there are multiple ways that players set their control layout. This also helps them strategize their games better and move their character according to their needs in a better manner. The control layout is different for every player, and it is very important to understand the controls in the game to practise and start working on other things. The right control layout can help you move the character better and also control the recoil of the guns that you might be using in the game.

What is a Control Layout, and What Are the Types?

A control layout is a manner in which different players set their controls according to their grip and style of play. There are multiple control layouts, and the control layout determines the grip that players are going to use in the game.

There are 3 control layouts that are very famous among players, and most players use one out of these. These are the thumb layout, the 3 finger claw layout and 4 finger claw layouts. The controls are set based on this, and so is the transparency of the controls.

Thumb Control Layout

This is the most basic control layout among players in BGMI. This is also the default control of the game when someone starts playing. In this layout, all the controls are around the reach of your thumb and all the actions are performed using thumb only. This does not take a lot of practise as it is the default control setting, but can get confusing and hectic for players because they are dependent on only 2 fingers to control and do all the movements with their character.

The main advantage of the thumb control layout is that it provides players with a lot of screen real estate, meaning more screen is visible to them as there are only 2 fingers on the screen. The best way to create this layout is to place all the control around the fire button. This way, you won’t have to move your hand much and will be able to execute your moves better.

Players don’t need to increase the transparency of the controls because most of the controls are on the bottom side of the screen and not blocking any view. Most players also believe that this is not a good grip for competition, but that’s not substantial, and players can participate in competitive matches even after being a thumb player. It is all about skills.

3-Finger Claw

As the name suggests, the 3 finger claw is a control layout where players use 3 fingers instead of the default 2. This control layout allows players to make faster movements and react in a better manner. The basic 3 finger claw control layouts include one of the controls to be toggled by either of your index fingers and other controls are to be toggled by the thumbs. Players usually place the fire button on the right or left top corner of the screen to toggle it with the index finger. This frees their thumbs to make movements like the jiggle movement or crouch during a fight.

One of the advantages has been mentioned above. This allows you to make faster movements and react in a swifter manner. One disadvantage that it comes with is that it takes up more screen space than playing with thumb controls. It is best for players to get into a lot of TDMs and spend a good time in the training ground to practice all the movements with the controls. If the fire button is on your index finger, then you need to increase the transparency of it so that it is easier for you to spot enemies.

The presence of the fire button on the top can be a hindrance in tracing and taking down enemies. Players should try keeping the joystick smaller than usual and keep the sprint option closer to the joystick. A free-floating joystick would be best for this type of layout.

4-Finger Claw

Going by the name, it is pretty evident that this control layout includes a design that allows players to use 4 fingers while playing. This is the hardest control layout to master, but most players think that this is also very effective. Since there are 4 fingers at work the response time reduces enhancing your reflexes. The movement also enhances, but it is something that players need to work on.

One thing that players need to keep in mind is that it covers a lot of the screen. The controls also need to be spread out accordingly so that every finger can do its job perfectly. The best way to go about this layout is to place the fire button on one top corner and the scope in button on the other corner. These two controls can be toggled by the index fingers. The rest of the controls can be toggled by the thumb. Players also need to be aware of the fact that the opacity of the controls need to be reduced so that everything can be visible, and the controls don’t come in the way of tracing and killing enemies.

If you are a beginner player, it is best to try all of these different layouts and play styles and know which fits your style of play. It is always best to stay clear of the battleroyale mode or ranked matches in the beginning. Practise in training ground and TDM first, and then you can finally go into the ranked match. Players also need to make sure that their sensitivity is right according to the control layout they choose to elevate their game even further.
