New Update
Coolpad Note

Coolpad has launched the Note 5 exclusively for the Indian market. The latest progeny of the Note series, Note 5 comes with a supercool all metal body with a 2.5D glass (one that’s curved at the edges) on top, both of which combine to make for an elegant design. The phone will be exclusively available on Amazon.in at a price of INR 10,999 and shall be available in variants of royal gold, space grey starting October 2016 via open sale from 18th October 2016.  We got to lay our hands on the royal gold one and found it absolutely delightful to hold. The nice part is the grip with the matte metallic design ensuring the phone remains firmly clasped within our hand.

Cool display and great performance

Coolpad Note 5 features a 5.5 inch display FHD resolution of 1920 x 1080(~401ppi) with 78% (screen-to-body ratio). The phone comes with Android 6.0 Marshmallow with the customised Cool UI 8.0 interface. It is loaded with 4GB RAM along with Qualcomm SD 617 Octacore processor and has a meaty 32 GB of internal storage – expandable to 64GB. Such power specs are reason enough to estimate the utility of this beast of a phone and it didn’t disappoint us either. We were able to run multiple apps with ease and experienced no lag at all. The gaming experience wasn’t a drag either and we experience no heating issues at all while playing all popular games on it.

Decent camera

Coolpad Note 5 has a front facing camera of 8 MP with LED Flash and a 13 MP primary shooter again with LED flash, making it one of those rare phones with a front LED flash. We were able to shoot decent videos and photos under average light conditions. The quality though not top-of-the-mark but is appreciable given the positioning of the phone. The battery capacity is 4010 mAh which should easily last you for more than a day with moderate usage.

Connectivity, sound and other notable features

With 4G now getting a foothold in India and with further upcoming spectrum auctions, the LTE ecosystem in India will only strengthen. Flowing with the stream, the phone is 4G-enabled and provides a satisfactory experience while making calls and browsing data. For a budget phone, the sound experience is pretty decent with music of all genres being loud and clear in the immediate vicinity. The phone weighs 173.4g but actually feels light in hands owing to its quality metal design and better grip. The Note 5 is also equipped with an Accelerometer, Geomagnetic Sensor Proximity Sensor, Light Sensor and Fingerprint Sensor to unlock. The phone supports OTG but this is a standard feature available across phones now.

Bottomline: Is definitely a fully-loaded phone for the price and our experience with previously-reviewed Coolpad devices is good as well. However, as with most budget phones, people still have apprehensions about their quality.
