New Update

This is a simple and economical camera from Creative’s PC-CAM Series. It looks similar to PC-Cam 550, which we reviewed in September 2003 (page 169). But the resolution supported is comparatively less, and so is the price.

The camera works on the new CMOS sensors technology. Traditionally, CCD was used. It has an in-built 8 MB RAM, and the good thing is that it’s non volatile. The camera can store 76 snapshots at an enhanced 640X480 resolution, up to 220 snapshots at default 352X228 resolution and 498 at the lowest 176X144 resolution. The image quality looks quite decent in high resolution but images in other two resolutions are only worth using as proof. The camera is capable of capturing up to 35 secs of video at 352X228 resolution. When connected to a PC, the device works as a fully featured

webcam.

The camera comes with two software: Creative PC Cam Center–to manage the digital camera–, and Web Cam Monitor– which is motion detection software for the webcam. By and large, a good and cost effective buy for home users.
