New Update

There were stereo speakers, then there were 2.1s, followed by 5.1, 6.1 and now 7.1 speakers. We don’t blame you for wondering why we need 7.1 speakers. These speakers add two more satellites on the sides giving a more realistic environment feel while playing games, watching movies or listening to DVD-Audio. Though they are recommended to be used with the Creative Audigy 2 7.1 sound card, they can take input from any 5.1 card and upgrade the signal to 7.1.

We tested the speakers using the Creative Audigy 2 ZS Platinum Pro sound card and the results were great as expected.

Though the sub-woofer tends to jar just a bit at very high volumes, it gives a really immersive feel to the movie or game experience.

In the frequency response tests they gave a good 20 Hz to 18kHz response. Going further with the tests we played various kinds of audio using the same, including DVD-Audio. Though CD audio and MP3s sounded good, the true power of the speakers was realized with

DVD-Audio.

The system is a great performance powerhouse with 8W RMS per channel satellites and 20W RMS sub-woofer. Given the price, it’s affordable by gaming freaks, music buffs, or those building their own home theatre system using their PC. Of course, if you want the total experience with these speakers, then go for the 17k Audigy 2 sound card, which we’ve also reviewed in this issue.
