Like its big boss Cyberoam CR 1500i, the CR 500i provides all the anti-X
protection, IDP, and so on. The difference was in the performance and the
hardware. It provides 6 Gbe ports and 4,00,000 concurrent sessions. In the
performance front, this device also performed very well, only with slight
difference in results with 1500i. Like some of the other UTMs in the shootout,
it provides a setup wizard which helps in setting up the device fast and easily.

In the anti-virus test, it detected and blocked 89% of viruses but this also
performed average in detecting macro viruses. Its anti-spam blocked 90% for the
spam, which is pretty good as compared to others in its group. Then we tried to
jam its port from external network, ports could not be jammed but there was
slight performance degrade. Then we tested for Arpspoof attack which this device
could not detect or block. Then we ran port scan and DOS attack on its external
interface which the device able to detect.
Bottomline: Looking at its price, feature, and performance, it fits
well in mid-sized enterprise.
