DataWipe

DataWipe removes data from your hard disk beyond recovery, which can be useful if have confidential data that you want to delete. When you press “Shift+Delete” to delete a file in Windows, it only deletes the link to the file from the file allocation table or master file table (NTFS). The actual file remains there until some other file overwrites it. DataWipe ensures that the actual file also gets removed by overwriting on it multiple times (50 passes). It works like a digital paper shredder. 

The software is available on a floppy disk for all Windows operating systems and can also be password protected. It has many other options. You can select the partition you want to wipe out or remove data by selecting files of a particular extension. This can be useful if you want to, say, remove all Excel sheets or Word files that may contain data you never want anyone to see. You can also select files at one time by running the software and then delete those files by a key-combination (hot-key feature) in an emergency, like if you want to remove all your chat logs! Another good feature is a scheduled data-wipe. Because of the nature of the software’s working, it takes some time to delete your files, if you compare that to the time taken for a normal delete. You can also delete all your temporary Internet files and cookies through this software.
