The
most striking feature of this PC, apart from the color of course, is its
noiseless operation. The system has been designed such that you won’t hear
anything even in a silent room, hard drive et al. The other feature comes to
notice when you open the PC. It has a completely tool-free design–that is, you
don’t need a screwdriver to remove any component inside the PC. This feature
can be extremely useful for servicing and maintenance.
The
tool-free concept applies not only to common components like drives and the
cabinet, but also to the power supply, add-on cards, and even the motherboard.
Everything can be easily pulled out. Ventilation inside the PC has been given
special attention. It pulls in air from a narrow end so the pressure increases
inside the system, and a channel takes it across all the components that need
cooling.
The
system can be kept horizontally or vertically, depending on how much space you
have on your desktop. You will, however, have trouble pulling out and inserting
CDs in the drive if it’s kept vertically. The PC has space for two USB ports
and a headphone jack on the cabinet’s front. These interfaces have been kept
at an angle, so if you insert the cables, they don’t protrude.
There are many configurations to choose from in the OptiPlex,
in both hardware and OS. It comes with an Intel i815 chipset-based motherboard
that can support either Celeron or PIII. The motherboard also has integrated
audio, video, and network connectivity. Plus, it also has two USB ports on the
rear panel.
