The tech giant revealed plans to add soon Android's Files app support for the document storage provider DigiLocker at the Google for India event on Monday. Google intends to make it simple for consumers to access their government-issued digital papers, such as their PAN, passport, Aadhaar, or any other, on their smartphone through its cooperation with the National eGovernment Division (NeGD). The purpose of this partnership is to reduce the time spent looking through hundreds of files for crucial ID documentation.

Will the Files App recognise official papers?

According to Google, the Files app can recognise users' official papers and group them into a single, protected folder. The business said the algorithm could extract PAN card and Aadhaar card information from documents saved on the Files App.

Will the documents be secure for the users?

The papers kept in Google Files "will be in an isolated environment on the device and may only be accessed with a unique lock screen authentication," according to the statement. Simply put, this implies that only the phone's owner will have access to the documents.

"We expect that DigiLocker's integration and partnership on Android will drive smoother and ubiquitous access to digitised documents safely and securely for all our users," said Abhishek Singh, President and CEO of NeGD and the MD & CEO of Digital India Corporation (DIC), in a statement announcing the partnership. Google has yet to disclose the precise date when consumers will be able to use the DigiLocker integration. The business has also withheld information about its collaboration with iOS.
