CD and DVD writers have become extremely popular due to
their slashed prices; owing to this we tend to burn a lot of media, either to
back up data, share movies and music with others, or anything else. This has led
to a problem-labeling of media, without which it can easily get mixed and
lost. That’s where the e-studio CD printer comes in. It’s meant specifically
for printing directly on CD and DVD media, so you don’t need any special paper
or sticker.

The e-studio Printer is a monochrome printer that uses
thermal transfer method to write on the surface of CDs and DVDs. It gives best
performance on CDs that have a completely blank printable face, unlike the
branded ones that already have the company logo and other info printed on them.
You get more printing area and even the prints come out very well. Using this
printer is pretty easy. It comes with a software that lets you design and type
in the content you want to print on the media. It gives you four box-shaped
printable areas on the CD. You can write plain text, curved text and insert
images on any of the four labels of the CD surface. After that all you have to
do is place a CD inside the printer and hit the Print button. One interesting
thing we noticed about this device was that the Windows printing system
doesn’t detect it. Only the software that comes with the device can recognize
it. That’s a little disappointing if you want to use a third-party software
like Nero Label Designer with this printer.

The printer’s ink is water resistant, so the prints
won’t get washed away. It can, however, be scratched off. The printer took
around a minute and a half to print all the four printable labels.

Bottom Line: We feel that the printer is largely
suitable for text and basic graphics printing on CDs. It’s inability to work
with other software is disappointing. Use it only if you have lot of media and
need simple text labels to manage them.
