New Update

Enough has been talked about the OLED (Organic Light Emitting Diode) technology–it sandwiches carbon-based films between two charged electrodes, to provide brighter, lighter, thinner and more durable screens, power efficiency, a viewing angle of up to 160 degrees and better refresh rates than LCDs and VFDs (Vacuum Fluorescent Display).

But, it is only recently that the technology has begun to find a place in products. Kodak has come up with OLED-based cameras, camcorders, picture viewers and electric shavers. This range of products is called Kodak NuVue. DuPont, too, has launched products under the Olight brand.

These flexible displays will make printing of electronic newspapers and billboard-size displays much easier. It is ideal for video applications, as they need to be turned on and off very quickly. The glass-based OLEDs provide improved visibility and battery life on portable devices such as PDAs and cell phones.
