New Update

This is a new entrant in our survey. Interestingly, here one brand seems to

have eaten out chunk of the market. Out of the 6 brands that offer server

virtualization solutions, 3 made it into User's Choice this year. VMware is the

winner with other brands (MS HyperV and Citrix Xen) far behind. Among our

participants, 76% were using server virtualization solutions from VMware, and 9%

being MS HyperV. In top of mind recall VMware again came out to be the obvious

winner with 70% participants mentioning its name in context of server

virtualization.

The reasons for future brand preference are interesting, and might make it

tough for VMware to continue its winning streak, or the huge margin it enjoys

over competition. A higher percentage of users than VMware said that they would

prefer HyperV for product reliability, initial price, and after sales

support/service. VMware's percentage was higher only in its bradn name, which

clearly indicates that it's enjoying the brand name that it's established

because of being an early mover in the server virtualization space.

Choice Club 2010

For now, VMware has complete dominance across all eight verticals and four

zones with other members not even close to it.

Brand Loyalty 2010 vs 2009

Vmware enjoys highest brand loyalty among its existing customers followed by

Citrix. HyperV needs improvement.

Analysis of brand loyalty further suggests good news for VMware as 91% of its

current users among our participants likely to stick with it in future as well.

Other members of User's Choice club are at 64% (MS HyperV) and 86% (Citrix Xen)

respectively. As this is a new segment, there's no gain/loss over last year.

Overall, VMware enjoys a huge lead over competition, but HyperV could be a

serious threat to it in the future, as the latter enjoys a higher votes in

threee out of four reasons why people would choose this brand in future.
