On Tuesday, Intel unveiled its full Intel Core 14th Gen mobile and desktop processor lineup at CES, including new HX-series mobile processors focused on gamers and creators. The chipmaker also unveiled its new Intel Core mobile CPU Series 1 family, designed for small and light mobile computers. The company's latest statements come just weeks after introducing its AI-focused Core Ultra CPUs for laptops and desktop computers in December. At CES this week, laptop makers unveiled new models with Intel Core Ultra chipsets and Intel's 14th Gen Platform Features & Performance Upgrades.

Intel's upcoming 14th-generation notebook processors

Intel's upcoming 14th-generation notebook processors are a revamp of the 13th-generation Raptor Lake CPUs, which were revealed at CES 2023. The Intel Core i9-14900HX is the flagship of the mobile chipset family, with 24 cores (eight performance and 16 efficiency) and 32 threads capable of reaching a turbo clock of 5.8 GHz. The flagship chipset is designed for high-performance enthusiast laptops. According to Intel, its top-of-the-line HX chipset provides up to 17% better gaming performance (measured in higher average FPS) than the AMD Ryzen 9 7945X3D and up to 51% faster multitasking performance over the AMD Ryzen 9 7945HX. In addition, the Intel Core i7-14700HX CPUs have 50 percent more E-cores.

The new Intel 14th Gen HX mobile CPU series can support up to 192GB of DDR5 memory. Thunderbolt 5 joins Thunderbolt 4, Wi-Fi 6E, and Wi-Fi 7, enabling multi-gigabit speeds in more places, and Bluetooth 5.4 and 5.3 are supported. Intel stated in a press post that over 60 Intel Core 14th Gen HX-powered laptops from hardware partners will be available this year.

Intel's 18 new 14th Generation desktop CPUs, including the top-of-the-line Core i9-14900, have power consumption ratings of 65-watt and 35-watt. The latest Intel desktop CPUs offer up to 5.8 GHz turbo frequency, with the firm claiming up to 37% faster multi-thread performance and up to 7% higher Microsoft Office performance than previous generations. The flagship Intel Core i9-14900 CPU has up to 24 cores (eight P-cores, 16 E-cores) and 32 threads, while the Core i7-14700 adds four E-cores for a total of 20 cores (eight P-cores, 12 E-cores) and 28 threads. The desktop chipsets continue to support PCIe Gen 5.0, Gen 4.0, Thunderbolt 4, and USB 3.2.

According to the firm, the entire Intel Core 14th Generation desktop CPU family is now available online and in retail outlets. "Our Intel Core 14th Gen processor family is built to bring top-notch performance and platform features to enthusiast and mainstream PC users alike," Roger Chandler, Intel vice president and general manager, Enthusiast PC and Workstations, Client Computing Group, stated in a news release.

The chip maker also revealed the Intel Core mobile processor Series 1 family, led by the Intel Core 7 processor 150U, which has ten cores and 12 threads with a turbo frequency of up to 5.4GHz. These chipsets are designed for thin and light devices such as mobile PCs. The Series 1 processors enable up to 96 GB of total DDR5/DDR4 memory, Thunderbolt 4, eight PCIe Gen 4.0 and 12 PCIe Gen 3.0 lanes for SSD storage, Bluetooth 5.4 and 5.3, as well as Intel Killer Wi-Fi 7 and 6E. Devices employing Intel Core U Series 1 CPUs will be available in the first quarter 2024.
