F-Secure anti-virus comes for DOS and Win 95/98/NT. The
package is easy to install. You can choose between network and standalone installations.
The interface has two display modes: toolbar and task-
list. The toolbar mode contains a number of buttons and menus to let users access its
different features.
The task-list mode shows the list of scanning tasks, in
addition to the buttons and the menus. It displays the name of each task, the next time
it’s scheduled to run, and the result of the last execution. You can create tasks for
scanning individual files and folders or for scanning the entire hard disk. Each task can
be scheduled and configured individually.
F-Secure comes with Gatekeeper–a real-time
scanner–which functions in the background and checks for possible virus infections
while the user is working. The Gatekeeper can be enabled or disabled. The F-Secure Manager
runs in the background to launch scheduled tasks.
F-Secure comes with the CounterSign API (application
programming interface). This permits a user to plug in third-party modules, such as
additional anti-virus detection engines.
