The 500 GB network drive from FreeCOM has USB 2.0 support. The drive has
trendy looks with three status LEDs on the front. It's quite small with form
factor of 3.5” and a weight of 1.258 kg, and can be easily carried around.
Setting up the drive is simple. It can be configured through USB or network with
the help of a small utility 'FNS-Assistant' shipped with the product. Once
configured, you can manage it through its web console. It also comes with an
auto backup software “NTI Shadow”. This software is wizard driven which allows
you to take backups on a local drive, external drive, or even on a USB pen
drive. It also allows you to schedule backups depending upon your needs.
The drive doesn't have any fans, thereby creates no noise. We tested this
network drive by transferring 100 GB data over an isolated network. The time
taken for the complete transfer was 3 hours 57 minutes and 13 seconds. The data
consisted of all types of files such as music, videos, PDFs, etc. One of the
drawbacks of this device is, it does not have support for gigabit network.
BOTTOMLINE: It's a good buy for small offices, especially if you
are looking for an external drive that offers easy access and file sharing.
