1) Samsung's “Youm” Displays

Flexible screens have been the dreams of geeks all these years, and it has become a reality with Samsung's flexible OLED screens that use thin plastic instead of glass for a screen. Since OLED(Organic light emitting diodes) are applied as just a thin layer of chemicals, they are placed on thin plastic to

produce a flexible screen. Samsung showed off a Windows smartphone that was bendable, which could be formed into a tube but not totally folded. Although

they have not announced when they plan to commercialize it, it is exciting to think of potential uses, such as a cylindrical tablet that be rolled out like

a blanket and used!

2) Dr Robot

A company called iRobot has manufactured a robot that can automatically do rounds of a hospital and allow doctors to check on patients over video

conference. The RP-Vita has built-in medical equipment which can be used by nurses to provide live readings to the doctor, who advises the patient from a

camera mounted on the head of the robot. iRobot has claimed it is more effective for patient interaction than using a smartphone or tablet.

3) Samsung's Dual-View TV

Ever found yourself arguing with mom/dad about taking control of the TV? With Samsung's “Real” dual-view OLED TV, two channels can be watched at one time!

Samsung has taken advantage of 3D technology to make the TV display a different view to a user, depending on whether they sit to the left or right of the

TV. However, the viewer will have to wear special glasses to watch the right program, and wear a pair of headphones that will stream the correct audio.

4) Vuzix Smart Glasses M100

Similar to Google's Glass project, the M100 provides a wireless visor headset that will display information from your smartphone in front of your eyes by

using a bluetooth connection. Since a GPS is integrated into the glasses, you will be able to view directions in your line of vision while you drive.

Connected to the cloud through this device, all kinds of applications can be used through your smartphone, and augmented reality will be a distinct

possibility in the near future.

5) HAPIfork by Jacque Lepine

This is the first “smart” utensil invented, and it will help you lose weight! The HAPIfork is an electronic fork that has in-built sensors to track the

rate at which you eat, length of time taken for a meal, and intervals between “fork servings”. The fork will emit an indicator light and vibrate gently

if the user is eating too rapidly. The fork can then be connected to a computer via USB and analytics can be done on your eating habits using an

application provided. According to the creators, eating too quickly has been shown to cause gastric problems as well as weight gain. They hope that

this “wonder-fork” will prevent such health problems, and actually help weight loss. Since this is just the beginning, one can only wonder what other

domestic products will get “smart” soon! Maybe someone will invent a “smart” toilet or a “smart” plate soon, that can do wacky things?
