Global Discovery Academy announces Winners of ‘First All-India Android Mobile App Design Competition’

Global Discovery Academy today announced the winners of its FIRST ALL-INDIA ANDROID MOBILE APP DESIGN COMPETITION at their finale organized at the Russian Centre of Science and Culture in New Delhi. The competition spanned across schools in 30 cities in India in a period of 3 months and received a remarkable response from the students in the target age group of 10 - 13 years. School students from across India were invited to participate in the competition wherein they created mobile phone applications to serve a social cause. Participant teams in group of 1-3 member each, created problem solving applications such Safety for Women, Healthcare & Civic Facilities, Waste Segregation, Water Management etc

The competition was held in 3 stages wherein the participants were to submit an outline of the proposed app in written for round 1. The shortlisted candidates for round 2 were given training in implementing apps through Sykpe+ Recorded Video Tutorials and personalized assistance from GDA representatives, basis which they had to create a semi-functional prototype of the app. The teams with most innovative ideas standing out of the herd were finally shortlisted to be invited to Delhi for this finale, where they presented the apps created by them. The winners were judged on the basis of their app's creativity, effectiveness, ease of use and final presentation.

Mr. Kapil Kapoor, Director - GDA while addressing the audience said, "Global Discovery Academy is an earnest initiative to bring in global schooling standards to India. Mobile App Development stands epitomic to the clear message this initiative bears to address the need for a different perspective and approach to education here. GDA is being driven to emerge as a national brand in education while defining a new benchmark in the segment." Dr. Kiran Bedi who was present at the event as the Chief Guest said "It is truly enthralling to see children achieving such remarkable feats at an age when one can perceive them to be merely busy with schooling and networking. The apps that have been presented not only demonstrate the caliber in technical appreciation but also reflect the sense of social responsibility these children bear, truly claiming their prognostic selves as future of the country. I am very impressed with Global Discovery Academy's overall concept and approach and wish them success in their endeavours."

Speaking about the finale, Mr. Vipul Redey, Chief Product Officer, GDA said, "This initiative is an example of how an extracurricular activity could be opening several young minds to the possibilities of an exciting career in technology. We at GDA pride ourselves with being a school of builders and not just consumers. As such, we thought it very appropriate to teach our students about how to build the apps that they so passionately use everyday. I would also like to gratify the efforts of these children and their parents in making this initiative a success while truly reflecting the essence of GDA."
