Golden Hills Private Limited automated the wage calculation for workers who
pluck tea leaves from tea gardens. Previously, this process involved deploying a
spring balance on the tea garden. After the workers plucked and collected all
the leaves they would put them in a nylon bag and weigh it using the spring
balance. These details were then captured on paper and sent across the office
for wage calculation according to the performance of the worker. The whole
process used to take six days.
Now the company is using a PC to capture the data from the field. An
electronic scale is used to weigh the wages and it is directly linked to the PC.
The field officer is responsible for capturing all data. This is done using
FoxPro. This data is sent across to the office where an Oracle 8 Payroll is used
for calculating the wages for the workers.
From six days, the company has cut down the wage calculation time to three
minutes.
After the successful deployment of this system, the company deployed
biometric palm print readers, so that the verification and authentication of the
workers could be done properly.
This system can ultimately be deployed for payment through an ATM. This
system takes care of ghost workers, and shyness amongst workers in rural areas
to operate an ATM.
