Google has released a brand-new class of Chromebooks called Chromebook Plus. These laptops offer AI-powered productivity-boosting capabilities and come with certain hardware specifications. Acer, Asus, HP, and Lenovo all sell Chromebook Plus computers, which have a $399 starting price.
Google has specified minimum hardware requirements for Chromebook Plus to ensure optimal performance when using productivity software and AI features. These specifications include a processor with Intel Core i3 12th Gen or higher or AMD Ryzen 3 7000 series or higher.
In addition, the device must have at least 8 GB of RAM, at least 128 GB of storage, a webcam with at least 1080p resolution with Temporal Noise Reduction and a high-quality Full HD IPS screen. These specifications are designed to improve the overall features and functionality of the Chromebook Plus.
What are the latest updates for Chromebook Plus?
Google is adding valuable video conferencing features to Chromebook Plus devices. A control panel at the bottom of the system allows users to quickly mute/unmute and enable/disable the camera. Expanding the menu highlights AI features like enhanced lighting, noise reduction, background blur and live subtitles.
In addition, the automatic file synchronization of Google Drive is turned on, which ensures easy access to files even without an Internet connection.
Google Images updates
Google Photos is getting several updates for its Chromebook Plus, including Magic Eraser for object removal, HDR, portrait blur, and automatic video creation from photos and videos. While some of these features may be compatible with other Chromebooks, Google has announced that they will be limited to the Plus class for the time being.
Partnerships with Adobe and LumaTouch
Google partners with Adobe and LumaTouch to provide software such as Photoshop, Adobe Express and LumaFusion. New Chromebook Plus buyers get three months of Photoshop and Express subscriptions for free. Additionally, all new Chromebook Plus devices come with a three-month subscription to Nvidia's GeForce NOW Priority cloud gaming service.
AI Features
In line with its AI integration strategy, Google is bringing AI-powered features to its Chromebook Plus, including typing that can work across multiple websites. Additionally, users can create AI-generated wallpapers based on invitations. This feature was previously announced for Android.
Software updates
Google has expanded its 10-year software upgrade offer for Chromebooks to include older devices that meet the Chromebook Plus profile. This ensures longevity and ongoing support for Chromebook users.
Asus, Acer, HP and Lenovo are all launching the first wave of Chromebook Plus devices starting at $399. These devices, available in both clamshell and detachable two-in-one formats, will go on sale from October 8. Customers in Europe and Canada can order the Chromebook Plus the next day.
