The Pixel 8a, the successor to this year's Pixel 7a, will likely be released next year. According to Google's previous mid-range phone launch timeline, the company's cheaper version of the Pixel 8 won't be shown for a few months, but details of the phone have already begun to leak online. A tipster has now revealed photos of the rumoured Pixel 8a, giving us a sense of the expected appearance and size.
Pixel 8a: Leaked Information
On X (previously known as Twitter), tipster David Kowalski (@xleaks7) posted (via Phandroid) a metal dummy unit of the Pixel 8a showcasing the front and back sides of the Pixel 8a phone. It is unknown whether the aluminium fake model was produced based on leaked information, but it hints that the Pixel 8a will have a design identical to the Pixel 8.
Pixel 8a: Display
The fake unit image shows the supposed Pixel 8a display with hefty bezels — significantly thicker than the Pixel 8 — and a hole punch cutout in the centre to house the selfie camera. It is expected to be 153.44 x 72.74 x 8.94mm, identical to its predecessor.
A second image given by the tipster shows the Pixel 8a's backside, indicating a dual rear camera arrangement. Details about the camera have yet to be published. The Pixel 7a had a 64-megapixel primary camera and a 13-megapixel secondary ultra-wide camera.
Leaked renders of the Pixel 8a surfaced online last month, indicating that it will have a 6.1-inch display. As a result, the intermediate device may be slightly smaller than the Pixel 8, which was just released in India and other worldwide regions alongside the Pixel 8 Pro. According to the leaked photographs, the Pixel 8a also appeared to have bigger bezels than the ordinary model.
At the time, tipster Steve Hemmerstoffer (@OnLeaks) reported that the Pixel 8a would be smaller than its predecessor, measuring 152.1 x 72.6 x 8.9mm. This tipster has a better track record of disclosing smartphone details before they are announced. Still, we may expect to learn additional information about the handset in the months before it is released.
