Google Pixel Watch 2 features leaked

The highly anticipated Google Pixel Watch 2 is expected to be released shortly. According to a new source, the Pixel Watch's replacement would gain significant enhancements, notably in the areas of the SoC and battery.

What enhancements will the Watch 2 have?

The Google Pixel Watch 2 is likely to have upgrades to the SoC, battery, connectivity, and capabilities such as UWB and Find My Device. It will be powered by Wear OS 4 and have a 1.2-inch OLED display.

Based on a report from Android Authority, the Google Pixel Watch 2 is expected to pack a Qualcomm Snapdragon W5 Gen 1 SoC instead of the Exynos 9110 chipset used in the first-gen model. It will likely come with a Snapdragon W5 chip built on Samsung's 4nm process. In addition, the Snapdragon W5 supports new low-power modes such as deep sleep and hibernation, which should extend Pixel Watch 2's battery life, according to the report.

The report adds that Pixel Watch 2 is expected to include ultra-wideband (UWB) technology that adds a range of connectivity options such as Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and NFC. UWB enables data transmission over short distances using pulsed radio waves, which enables device location.

Other features and specifications

  • Google is also said to be beefing up its Find My Device network, which works similarly to Apple's AirTag. According to the report, the feature could act as a digital car key or provide media playback as an alternative to a Pixel tablet or Google Nest device.
  • With a slightly larger 306 mAh battery compared to its predecessor, the Pixel Watch 2 should see a modest four percent improvement over the Pixel Watch 2022's 294 mAh battery, promising up to 24 hours of battery life, according to the report.
  • The upcoming smart wearable should also run on Wear OS 4, which is based on Android 13.
  • The Pixel Watch 2 is also expected to be developed under the code names "Eos" and "Aurora", which probably correspond to only LTE and Wi-Fi versions, adds the report.
  • The upcoming model is expected to feature a 1.2-inch round OLED screen with a resolution of 384 x 384 pixels and relatively thick bezels.
  • However, it has been speculated that the company may replace the BOE panel of the original Pixel Watch with Samsung Display screens.
