According to the business, this functionality will let users reduce any apps that aren't being utilised without losing any saved data.

What is the auto-archive feature?

Auto-archive is a brand-new feature that lets users free up space on their device without having to uninstall an application completely. Infrequently used apps will be partially removed from the device to save space once the user opts in, but the app icon and the user's personal app data will remain.

If the app is still available on Google Play, the user can simply tap to re-download it and pick up where they left off when they want to use it again.

According to product managers Chang Liu and Lidia Gaymond at Google Play, "Sometimes, users don't need to delete an entire app to free up some space on their phone."

Instead, they can simply shrink it. Auto-archive does just that. It saves space while still allowing users to keep their apps and data. It also makes it easier for developers to keep their apps on phones.

How the auto-archive feature works?

  • Auto-archive is a great way for developers to reduce the likelihood of their apps being uninstalled and an easy way for users to manage the storage on their devices. This is the way the component works
  • The client attempts to introduce a new application when the gadget is out of capacity.
  • The user is prompted to choose whether they want to enable auto-archive in a pop-up window.
  • If the user chooses to participate, any apps that the user does not use will be automatically archived to make room for a new app request.

Additionally, developers who publish their apps with the Apple Bundle can now use auto-archive. Users will be less likely to see your app among the uninstall suggestions if it supports archiving.
