The company has received a tremendous response from smartphone enthusiasts after the launch of their flagship killer OnePlus 3 this year. The recent launch of OnePlus 3T in India this month has also helped the company gain traction in the market. Because of its affordable yet powerful flagships, consumers are eagerly anticipating its new device. However, their new device won’t be called OnePlus 4.

According to a report from PhoneRadar, the smartphone will be called OnePlus 5 and not OnePlus 4. In China, number four is considered an unlucky number because it is nearly homophonous to the word death.

We have seen the same philosophy (Tetraphobia) being implemented by other Chinese Vendors as well. Elevators in Asia and Asian neighborhoods often skip the 4th floor or any floor whose number contains the digit "4" (as 14, 24, etc.). South Korean and Taiwanese navies also avoid this number due to its extreme negative connotations of death. April 4 is considered an exceptionally unlucky day (much like Friday the 13th in the West).

Earlier, another Chinese technology company Vivo introduced the Vivo V5 as the successor to Vivo V3.

Industry insiders are claiming that OnePlus 5 will feature ceramic housing as the company has already released OnePlus X in the past, which came with zirconia ceramic finish.

Apart from this, OnePlus 5 could be launched with a 5.5-inch Quad HD AMOLED display, a Snapdragon 835 chipset and 6GB of RAM. The handset is expected to arrive in the market in Q2 2017.
