Installing Hindi fonts in PCQLinux 7.1 is easy. Create a subdirectory named ‘hindi’ within /opt directory. Copy the file hindi.zip found in cdrom /linux/fonts directory on this month’s PCQuest CD to /opt/hindi directory. Unzip the archive as:
unzip hindi.zip
Now issue the following commands:
mv /opt/hindi /usr/share/fonts/
chkfontpath -a /usr/share/hindi
Now you can use the Hindi fonts in any X application like KEdit. You just have to select, using the menus, ‘shivaji01’ or ‘shusha’ from the font list. In case of KEdit, click on Settings> Configure KEdit and then click on Font. From the list named
Font, select the font, a font style and your preferred font size. Click on OK. Whatever you type will appear in Hindi.
