New Update

Here, too, assembled PCs top in overall preference, and Compaq regains top spot amongst brands, replacing

Wipro. HCL replaces IBM as the number three brand, Zenith drops out of the list, and IBM drops two positions to become number five.

We analyzed the votes for both office and home PCs together. In current usage also, assembled PCs top, followed by Compaq, HCL and HP in that order. As before, the assemblers’ trump card is pricing–a quarter of those who voted for the assembled say that they give good quality and better price. Compaq scored heavily on quality, while nobody seemed to opt for IBM or Wipro because of price! Interestingly, Compaq scored heavily in the North, where the assembled got fewer votes. Almost half of the South voted for assembled machines.
