New Update

The dual front camera selfie smartphone Oppo F3 Plus was launched yesterday at a gala event in Delhi where the new brand ambassador and Bollywood heartthrob, Deepika Padukone, was also unveiled before the media. This is the second dual front camera selfie smartphone launched in India in the last two months. Both the dual camera selfie smartphones appear strikingly similar. However, being the latest out of the two smartphones, Oppo F3 Plus does go a step ahead from its Chinese rival.

The similarities

Let’s begin with the similarities first. In the golden variant, both smartphones have a white front and pale golden back.  From a distance, you wont be able to distinguish one from the other. Both smartphones have a very narrow bezel and very similar screen to body ratios of close to 75%. Similarly, their smaller body depth at 0.29 inches a piece provides the user with a comfortable grip in hand and we had no problems moving our thumb around. They have dual SIM slots (nano-SIM, dual stand-by) but one of those slots would have to be sacrificed for a microSD card should you decide to go for extended storage. They run on Android 6.0 (Marshmallow) out of the box and have Corning Gorilla Glass 5 screen for protection. You get 4GB RAM and 64 GB ROM with both dual camera selfie smartphones. For charging, you have the micro USB B port at the bottom on both devices while sound is delivered through mono speakers at the bottom again. Also, both run on nearly similar Qualcomm Snapdragon chipset with Cortex A53 CPU and Adreno graphics chip.

A dual front camera selfie smartphone launched two months later is bound to offer more features to present a serious challenge to its predecessor. For a start, it has a 6-inch IPS display as compared to the 5.5 inch display of Vivo V5 Plus. The larger display might arouse suspicions around the form factor and the user’s ability to hold it in hand. However, during our experience with the smartphone we can safely conclude that, thanks to the narrow bezel and light form factor, Oppo F3 Plus is as easy to hold and work on as the Vivo V5 Plus. Also, at 185 grams, it is 25 grams thicker than the 159 grams weight of Vivo V5 Plus, but again there is negligible impact to be felt while holding it with one hand.

Now, coming to the showcase feature of both smartphones—dual front camera specs. The Oppo F3 Plus with 16 MP and 8 MP cameras @f/2.0 and 1/3" sensor size seems to have cut corners as compared to 20 MP and 8 MP front cameras @f/2.0 and 1/2.8" sensor of Vivo V5 Plus, which does indeed take some breathtaking selfies. In the rear camera, we might have to hand it over to Oppo F3 Plus as it has a 16 MP, f/1.7 camera with dual phase detection autofocus, OIS and dual-LED (dual tone) flash as compared to the 16 MP, f/2.0 camera with phase detection autofocus and single LED flash of Vivo V5 Plus. To take care of emergencies, the Oppo F3 Plus also promises battery charge worth 2 hours talk time in 5 minutes flat through its VOOC charging technology.

As far as browsing experience is concerned, we found both smartphones to be excellent however, in audio quality we have to hand it over to Vivo V5 Plus as it delivers loud and decent quality sound through its mono speaker. Oh and BTW the Vivo V5 Plus is already available in India for Rs 27,980. while the Oppo F3 Plus shall be available for Rs 30,990.
