H P's latest offering in the multifunction segment; Color LaserJet CM 2320fxi
MFP is fully loaded to meet requirements of printing, copying, scanning and even
of a fax for a medium sized workgroup of an organization or a small office. The
device has been bundled efficiently to handle the workload of a networked
workgroup of upto 20 users having the requirements of color printing as well.
The astutely designed printer has a intuitive control panel having a flippable
2.4” color LCD display. Through the panel, you can do the settings for the
printer, including its IP address, email and fax configurations. This being a
network printer, the printer management can be done through a web browser based
control panel too. Configuring and setting up the printer to be used on a
network is straight-forward, though you have to manually install printer drivers
on each computer. The printer has a fast Ethernet connectivity and when
connected to a network, it automatically scouts for an IP address from the DHCP.

The printer can handle large volume of print jobs thanks to its 450 MHz
processor and 160MB of standard memory, which can be extended upto 416MB. The
printer gives mono and color prints at 600x600 dpi resolution and can handle
varied types of print media like paper, transparencies and envelopes, and is
capable of printing documents on upto legal sized paper. The built-in
auto-duplexer lets you print on both side of paper, a feature that is valued as
it helps in saving paper. The copier can reduce or enlarge documents from 25% to
400%, and can make a maximum of 99 copies of a document at a time. For handling
papers, it has two 250 sheet input trays as well as a 50 sheet multi-purpose
tray for manual feeding. The ADF can handle up to 50 sheets. The fax also is
just as useful, which can hold up to 250 sheets in memory and has a speed of
33.6 kbps.
Coming to features of its flatbed scanner, the printer has a optical scanning
resolution of upto 1200dpi. It provides an option to send scanned documents
directly to a computer or email. As the printer has slots for memory cards, you
can also directly save scanned documents in the memory cards. Since USB pen
drives are mostly used by users, it would have been convenient, had HP provided
a facility to save scanned documents directly from printer to a USB drive. This
facility is already available with some HP OfficeJet series printers.
We tested the printer on an isolated network, and in the tests, LaserJet CM
2320fxi was able to print the first page in about 17 seconds. While in speed
tests, it printed at a speed of 19 pages per minute for monochrome and color
printing. The quality of the text as well as graphics was crisp and clear.
Printing a full page color graphic image took about 21 seconds, and the quality
and color sharpness was vivid. The printer goes into auto self cleaning mode
intermittently, and even in between print jobs, the cleaning process begins thus
delaying the print job.
Bottomline: If you do not have large volume color printing needs, then
this multifunction printer at this price and features is a good deal.
