Hewlett Packard (HP) will reportedly enter the Android smartphone space possibly by 2014. The company had previously tried its luck in the segment but it decided to focus on its core areas after realizing the market viability.

HP's hand has been further enforced to re-enter the market with the likes of Panasonic, Acer and other biggies like Qualcomm and Nvidia also eyeing the space.

The company had launched its Android powered tablet, Slate 7 earlier this year and recently HP added Slate 21 to its Android product line-up. According to a company executive, HP is working on a smartphone that will offer "differentiated experience" to the consumers.

The details shared are vague and there is no timeline as to when HP will launch its smartphone. "Being late you have to create a different set of proposition. There are still things that can be done. It is not late. When HP has a smartphone, it will give a differentiated experience," the executive added.

The terms ‘different experience' has been heard often and recently Motorola made a similar claim at the All Things D conference. The company has just spoken about smartphone, without detailing the possible mobile platform, so it could be Android, Windows Phone or even the newer Firefox OS.
