This is a workgroup multifunction device which supports printing, scanning,
copying and fax functions. Its printer has an internal RAM of 256MB that can be
extended up to 512MB. You can install the MFP in your network using its auto
set-up wizard. This lets you configure the settings for the printer and fax. The
IP address configuration and e-mail setup of the device is also easy and can be
done either remotely or through the touch screen control panel manually. This
panel is very easy to use and you can navigate through the different functions
in a Windows like manner (with all the icons, installation wizards and help).
Plus, it also has optional USB connectivity. The M3027x supports 500-sheet input
tray and a 100-sheet multipurpose tray. The output tray has a capacity of 250
sheets.
We tested the device over a network using a Windows XP machine, having 512 MB
RAM and a 2.8 GHz Intel processor. The HP M3027x has a rated print and copying
speed of 27 pages per minute (ppm) and the first page out speed of less than 10
seconds. In our tests we got a speed of up to 29 ppm whereas the first page out
was in around 12 seconds. It can print at a maximum resolution of 1200 x 1200
dpi. The time taken for duplex printing of a ten-page document was about 46
seconds.
The monochrome copier has a resolution of 600 x 600 dpi. The documents can be
reduced and enlarged from 25% to 400%. A maximum of 999 documents can be copied
at a time. The copying time from the flat-bed and from ADF was less than 10
seconds. The device offers color-scanning and digital-sending capabilities. You
can scan black-and-white or color documents and send them as an e mail
attachment using the MFP's control panel. You can also store frequently emailed
addresses and then send the scanned documents as attachments in the form of PDF,
Doc or JPEG images. The optical resolution of the scanner is 600 x 600 dpi. A
PIN authentication feature ensures security for stored jobs in the MFP. So,
confidential data can also be scanned and stored, to be e-mailed later on. The
e-mail option for scanned docs can also be established through the network
control panel of any client.
The fax supports speed dial and took 64 seconds to send/receive a fax. The
MFP has an internal hard drive of 40 GB to store jobs. The continuous pages of
the document can also be stored as one job using the Job-Build option. Using
this, you can scan, store or e-mail all the pages of a book at one go.
Bottom Line: An ideal MFP that can perform high-volumes of print,
scan, copy and fax jobs for a workgroup.
