HP Officejet 6500 caters to the needs of small and micro-businesses. It is a
comprehensive unit that offers color scanning, copier and fax facility besides
color inkjet printing. It uses HP Thermal Inkjet print technology to print at a
resolution of 4800x1200 dpi, and has standard internal memory of 32MB. The
scanner has an optical scanning resolution of 2400 dpi. The input tray holds 250
sheets of paper, and the automatic document feeder has an intake capacity of 35
pages. The control panel includes separate function sections for fax, copy, scan
and photo-printing. There's a full number pad for fax dialing with facility of
100 speed dial numbers stored. The HP 6500 has two slots for reading memory
cards and printing photos directly from them. For network settings, it takes IP
from DHCP automatically or can be set manually from the control panel as well.
We tested the printer on an isolated network and found that the first page took
20 seconds to print. For printing normal color documents, it gave a 10 page per
minute print speed. The print quality was good and with sharp text even for
small fonts. While printing a borderless 4x6 inch photo in best quality mode on
a high gloss photo-paper, it took 90 seconds. The quality of color photo print
was excellent, except for grainings in some areas. For copying a single page,
the time taken was 12 seconds, what was the same as that for scanning a document
at default resolution setting.

Bottomline: A decent performer that comes at a competitive price,
suitable for a small office.
