Providing education to prospective students in far flung areas like barely
connected Himalayan regions may sound appealing but it does pose its own set of
physical, practical challenges. Gathering the required resources and reaching
out to the students is itself a challenging task. CEIT- IGNOU is an educational
program deployed in the J&K. Essentially, it is a community college which has
been set up under the ‘IGNOU Community College Program’ at Srinagar, Kashmir.

The community college is to offer educational programs with synergistic
interaction and linkage with industry, business establishments, manufacturing &
marketing companies so that the enrolled students could get sufficient job
opportunities. The program also has a mission to help the enrolled students to
set up their own industrial units/business establishment for which
collaborations have been developed with DIC, SIDCO, J&K Grameen Bank, Jammu &
Kashmir Bank, Director Tourism, for providing finance and technical support.

About 25 centers have been started with around 1000 computers and 200 manpower
to supplement the latest educational software to provide skill development and
vocational courses where students can get acquainted with the latest in line of
education to empower themselves to become proficient workers. The idea behind
the project still remains to take education to places where it would not have
been possible otherwise.
