The Problem: Infosys's digital business comprises of a complex suite of 300+ applications on a wide range of technological platforms from NetWeaver, .NET, J2EE to clusters across datacenters on blade-centers, application farms, caching and load balancing appliances. With the recession scenario of '09, it became a challenge to meet the infrastructure requirements for on-demand scaling, disaster recovery etc. with limited budgets.
The Solution: The company executed infrastructure consolidation and implemented optimized virtualization across server, storage, file share and presentation stacks across various technologies in the complex landscape. As many as 300+ virtual servers were hosted on 19 physical servers with 17:1 virtualization ratio without compromising performance. Then when recession was over, the company adopted latest and bleeding edge technologies including Microsoft's HyperV, Hitachi's Metro Cluster and Hitachi's Virtual Storage Platform, which have made them ready to have their Private Cloud.
The Result: Besides surviving recession and then laying foundation for private cloud on existing capex, the company is seeing savings of around 10 Million USD & Net Power savings of 1604700+ KWh.
