Healthcare delivery has always been a challenge in India with the govt.

spends being abysmally low at around 1% of the GDP. Availability of skilled

doctors and nurses in remote areas is also a serious challenge. Intel along with

TCS, Narayana Hrudayalaya, SN informatics, VIIT started the project Tele-health

to provide quality healthcare facilities in villages. The aim of the project is

to provide quality care to rural population, providing 24x7 ECG service through

specialized hospitals in urban areas. This means citizens of rural areas do not

have to travel to urban areas to get an expert checkup, which saves their time

as well as money, and at the same time it can reduce load on urban hospitals.

The project also aims to provide peer to peer tele-consultation with other

Blocks/Taluk HQ. The project involves connecting the primary healthcare centers

(PHC) in rural areas to Urban hospitals such as Narayana Hrudayalaya through the

Internet. PHCs have been equipped with PCs, Internet connectivity, Digital ECG

machines, printers, connecting the PHC to urban specialized hospitals like

Narayan Hridayalaya. ECGs are sent from the PHC to Narayan Hridayalaya for

diagnosis and the result comes back in under 6 minutes.
