A look inside the factory where Intex speakers are born

Intex Technologies is the largest manufacturer of multimedia speakers in the country. The 86,400 sqft plant in Jammu has touched the milestone with a production volume of 1.5 Million annually and 100K+ units per month. PC Quest team visited Intex plant in Jammu where varied multimedia speakers are manufactured by 600 workers.

Beside Jammu facility, Intex has 4 more plants—Baddi in HP (1), Noida (3). Intex has an overall manufacturing capacity of 112 million units from across five plants. The company is continuously increasing domestic manufacturing capacity with its first plant set-up in 2004 in Jammu. The speakers manufactured here undergo various tests which include:

• Computer Multimedia Speaker Test & Reliability (CLIO)

• IQC

• On-Line Testing

• OQC

• Ageing Chamber

• Vibration Test

• Heating Test

In 2016 & 17, Intex developed 100W Tower Model Speaker, Green Rohs Packaging and made SMD Amplifier PCBs. Also, Converted all existing models with BT connectivity and indigenous-built BT module. Intex is also working on new tech innovations, in coming time it is planning to bring Wi-Fi connectivity multimedia system; Speakers with mosquito repellent, TFT LCD display MP5 introduction in Tower Speaker, Solar powered 2.0/201 MMS and LED TV base mounted 2.1 sleek home theater system. Apart from multimedia speakers, Intex is also into consumer durables and mobile phones also mainly focused on the markets of tier 2 cities.

Intex also has a lab where all the products are tested in Okhla, Delhi. The company is also expanding team in terms of Android architects as it is focusing on wireless innovations. Jammu plant has 4 assembly lines where people work in single shift operations which can expanded to double shift.

The workers are mostly local people who have done ITI or 10+2 however the company also has training programs for skilling. The Intex plant has been a steady source of jobs for many Jammu localites, especially women, for a long time now.
