New Update

JetFlash plugs into a USB 1.1 port and functions both as a 128 MB flash drive as well as 802.11b wireless adapter. Push of a button turns the wireless feature on or off-in the off mode it works purely as a flash drive. Separate LEDs indicate current activity for both drive and wireless transfers.

It supports two modes of wireless service-Adhoc and Infrastructure-that can be managed by the bundled WLAN utility software. It supports both 64 bit and 128 bit WEP encryption. The utility provides an interface to set up transmission rate, RTS threshold, preamble mode, power saving, channel selection and firmware download.

When used as a drive, it performed reasonably well although it is slower than the vanilla USB

drives. Strangely, we missed having support for password-protecting the data on the drive. The wireless throughput, on the other hand, is more

or less similar to other USB wireless adapters. Interestingly, an excellent connectivity (4.5 Mbps) was available even at a distance

of 300 m, and even with Bluetooth interference we got 5 Mbps.

The Bottom Line: The competitive price makes it a good buy for mobile executives who need wireless connectivity and a USB drive in one low-cost package.
