The Problem: The company had implemented SAP in 2007, and has been running its entire business on it across 170 locations in India. With the entire business relying on SAP, the company can't afford any downtime of the primary production server. It was therefore essential for the company to keep the supply chain on and ensure business continuity.
The Solution: The company setup a near DR center in New Delhi. This center is used to replicate the archive lots of the SAP ECC R/3 production server. Users use same user ID and password of ECC R/3 for primary site at Faridabad. ECC Production Server's database archive log shipping from primary site to DR site is done over MPLS VPN links. The logs received by DR Server are applied to SAP database at regular intervals and are monitored to precision.
The Result: The real impact of this project is that even if there's a disaster, 33% of the key users in sales, production, and dispatch can continue their day to day operations. The company clocks 1.4 Cr of daily sales, which could have been lost if the primary production server went down and there was no DR.
