Amazon's Kindle Paperwhite is recognized as the ‘Apple of e-readers' and such claims lie well and truly answered by the sheer presence and its popularity. So, can a company like Kobo join the party in a country where the preferred mode of reading still lies with the traditional reading enthusiasts aka hard-copy novels?

In terms of hardware, Kobo Glo is a well built device that is based on Kobo's Pearl e-Ink touch screen which offers up to 16 levels of grayscale on its 6-inch XGA display. One must note that its resolution of 1024 x 758 pixels is at par with the Kindle Paperwhite (2012). But in comparison to Paperwhite, the Glo is lighter, smaller and easier to hold.

The Glo lights up the same way as the Paperwhite, but is a tad brighter. In terms of reading experience, apart from a few lags in touch response, the customized read settings like range of fonts, tap to forward, etc are very convenient to use. Interestingly, the Glo carries the advantage of versatality over Paperwhite as it supports the Epub format and enables one to read books that have not been bought via the Kobo store. In addition to that, Glo comes with microSD card slot for expanding storage capacity, another thing that Paperwhite misses. The Kobo store's price is miles behind Amazon's library and the company needs to work its mechanism to suit the needs of readers in the country, thus making it more affordable which can entice more readers to make the e-switch. The battery life of the Glo is decent enough and will last for more than a couple of weeks on a single charge thanks to its low power consuming e-Ink display.
