This notebook has the typical ThinkPad matted finish which is a great relief
from the glossy lids present on most laptops today. Features that make T400
stand out amongst other notebooks include: a comprehensive set of security
features, highly responsive keyboard and touch pad, and screen lock. Apart from
the fingerprint reader, the other security feature is 'Computrace,' an optional
monitoring service from Absolute Software that helps in locating the laptop in
case of theft or loss. The monitoring is done with the help of a SIM card which
is inserted inside a dedicated slot. However, a weight of 2.7 Kg does not make
this notebook ideal for field work.
It gave a battery backup of more than 3 hrs which is good for any laptop.
When compared to laptops featured in the last month's 'Big Laptop Special' story
(priced between 50k to 75k), this one has the highest battery backup time. When
we compared the scores of 3D Mark and PC Mark benchmarks for graphical and
overall capability, the T400 with scores of 960 and 3974 respectively was found
wanting. And even though the PC Mark score can be passed off as average, the 3D
Mark score is pretty much low, with the only plausible reason being the absence
of dedicated graphics.

Bottomline: An excellent notebook if security is your top priority.
Otherwise, a 160 GB HDD and 1 GB RAM is way behind other similar notebooks.
