Lenovo unveils rollable smartphone concept with Motorola Rizr MWC

Motorola rollable smartphone concept that was shown during the MWC in Barcelona can be referred to as a unique concept in the industry. It is reported to be a Moto Rizr, a tribute to the venerable Motorola Rizr Z3 slider phone from 2006.

Motorola Rizr Concept

The new device concept has a display that is 5 inches wide and has a 15:9 aspect ratio. It can be stretched vertically to a 6.5-inch diagonal and has a 22:9 aspect ratio.

This means that you can switch from a phone the size of a mini to a phone the size of a plus with the push of a button, giving you a phone that you can use with just one hand and a larger screen for watching media when you need it. A double tap on the power button is all that is required.

Despite Motorola's assertion that the controls may differ in a mass-market device based on this one. As with all rollable and foldable displays, the BOE screen is a pOLED display with its own set of durability concerns.

A small portion of the display can be used for notifications or as a camera viewfinder to preview shots because the panel wraps around the device's back.

Another interesting feature is that the earpiece and selfie camera are hidden behind the panel, so when you make or receive a call or want to take a selfie, the display will roll down.

Design and battery life

The rollable mechanism automatically expands the display in apps like YouTube for a more immersive experience and in the email app so that you can type on a larger canvas. When you move the display around, the home screen's wallpapers and icons also move.

The rollable concept phone from Motorola has a 3,000 mAh battery and a hefty 210 grams.

It would be fascinating to see where Motorola takes this idea and how it intends to market a rollable phone.

Rollable devices pose a significant challenge in terms of durability, even more so than foldable ones. This Motorola's rollable screen is always visible, and even a small drop could potentially ruin the experience.

The moving mechanism that moves the display up and down must also be taken into account. However, a compelling proposition is that rollable phones make better use of space in a smaller form factor.
