New Update

The Linksys E3000 High Performance Router is dual band router which includes 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands with Wireless-N technology. It has 4 Ethernet ports that are gigabit capable and helps in quick file sharing. To check the performance of this router, we used two machines with Windows 7 (32 bit) installed on it and connected wirelessly with the router. First we used 'Qcheck 3.0' to check the UDP and TCP throughput with 1000 Kb of payload being transferred between the two machines over WiFi. This router gave 16 Mbps (UDP) and 45 Mbps (TCP) respectively, which is good as comapred to Linksys WRT160NL whose throughput is 28.78 (TCP) and 10.27 (UDP). To check the speed of transmission of Linksys E3000, we transferred 40 MB of data from another machine. The average time taken to transfer this file was approximately 11 seconds. Also it has 3 internal antennas for both the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz radio band, as compared to 2 antennas in Linksys WRT160NL, which covers larger area, with wireless-N technology capable of creating long range signals.

Linksys E3000 also has a USB 2.0 port which can be used for the external storage device but not for the printer. Its guest networking feature allows you to share the Internet, without granting access to your resources like files or printers. However, it is not advisable to use this router as a Wi-Fi hotspot since you cannot have more than 10 guests at a time. Additional features like limited access time, parental control, secured password protected network adds to the security of Internet usage.

Bottomline: A fairly good performance and Wireless-N technology make it a good buy.
