The Problem: The expression of Mahindra’s brand position is through the word “Rise” – “we enable people to Rise”. In line with the objectives of the brand re-positioning exercise, various initiatives are underway to bring the group closer and promote collaboration, sharing of resources and harnessing synergies. The establishment of the “One Mahindra” Intranet portal, with Microsoft SharePoint 2007 as the backend technology in 2009 was the first step towards this. However the portal had many functional and aesthetic drawbacks that led to its gradual decline in popularity.

The Solution: With the objective of unifying the group and reinforce the spirit of RISE and pave way for its learning, absorption and deployment across the group, the Mahindra Rise portal was launched. The vision was to have a situation where somebody puts up a question on the Rise intranet and receives thousands of ideas and answers – a powerful thought that they can tap into everyone’s wisdom. With technologies such as Microsoft Sharepoint 2010, MS SQL 2008 R2, and Windows Server 2008 R2 they were able to deploy this solution.

The Result: According to Mahindra, the Mahindra Rise portal has helped create better cross-business engagement amongst employees. The Rise philosophy is understood and its tenets are now become a part of the culture of the group. Employees now identify closely with the new core purpose that speaks of challenging conventional thinking and using our resources to drive positive change in the lives of their stakeholders and communities across the world.
