When the system went live the ERP database size was nearly 750 GB. As the system usage grew, from 10,000 logins / per month to 30,000 logins / per month. The DB size also grew exponentially. The backup time almost doubled. The transaction and reporting requirements of users lead to increased system response time.

The Solution: All of Mahindra's SAP systems were upgraded from Oracle 10g database to Oracle 11g R2 version. Thereafter Advanced compression for Harmony ERP database was done. to address above challenges. They used HP Load runner for user load testing on the compressed database.

The Result: They achieved overall compression ratio of 54% which means savings of 3 TB of disk space alone at Kandivali datacenter. In total 9 TB of usable disk space including the Near DR and Far DR site at Chennai location was saved. This can be extended to 18 TB of RAW space without storage level disk mirroring. The system backup window of 8 hours has been reduced to approx. 4 hours post compression activity, which means lesser system recovery time at least by a factor of 50%.
